While most publishers fled GTA 6's November launch window, Remedy Entertainment is doing the opposite. CEO Jean-Charles Gaudechon told The Game Business that the studio is not overly concerned about launching Control Resonant close to the Rockstar juggernaut. In fact, he believes the massive cultural wave around GTA 6 could actually lift smaller games rather than bury them.

It is a potentially risky take that runs as an interesting counterargument to the industry-wide panic. Gaudechon points to the movie industry, where giant blockbusters can temporarily increase interest in cinema overall, helping smaller films gain visibility they might not otherwise receive. Remedy games historically rely on a long tail of sales over several years rather than trying to recoup their entire budget in the first weekend.

"Eventually, somebody has to test whether games can still survive alongside a cultural giant. If Remedy is right, the industry may have spent the last year overestimating how impossible it is to coexist with Rockstar."

But there is a huge difference between "gaming gets more attention" and "players have enough time and money left for your game." GTA 6 is not just another popular release — it will absorb an absurd amount of player attention for weeks, potentially months. Unlike movies, games demand active participation over long periods. Players don't finish GTA 6 in a single weekend.

The saving grace: Control Resonant and GTA 6 offer very different experiences. Remedy specializes in surreal storytelling and focused narrative design. Some players actively look for shorter, more curated experiences because massive open-world games can become overwhelming. Gaudechon's confidence might end up looking brilliant or catastrophically naive — both outcomes feel plausible right now.
