Six major PlayStation titles shown during the broadcast are clustered into September and October 2026, a release window that exists specifically because publishers fled GTA 6's November. The State of Play did not feature GTA 6, but every game that appeared in the September portion of the showcase owes its release date to GTA 6's gravitational pull.

Sony maintains a confirmed marketing partnership with Rockstar for GTA 6, and the State of Play reinforced that partnership indirectly — by showcasing a release calendar that exists in GTA 6's shadow. The absence of GTA 6 from the broadcast was itself the most significant statement the show made about Rockstar's game.
